Last weekend Alicia Cook and Kasseem Dean better known by the stage names of Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz became married. Obviously the controversy surrounding the union of this couple is pretty well known. Swizz was previously married to Mashonda a songwriter famous for penning Eve’s “Gotta Man” and Mya’s “Best of Me” however the couple split when Mashonda learned about the one year affair her husband had with Alicia Keys. Needless to say, during that same year Mashonda gave birth to Kaseem Jr. A messy divorce and melancholy letter from Mashonda later. Swizz is now divorced and remarried. Many Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz fans, respectfully — were disappointed when they learned that Mashonda felt slighted after learning that her hardly separated husband was openly dating and defending someone she was herself a fan of. However, like most star crossed lovers Keys and Beatz seem to be ready to defy all odds and prove the naysayers wrong – in a move that nearly says mind your business. Alicia Keys and Swizzy are expecting a child – sex unknown. Alicia and Kaseem appear very happy and of course she has the pregnancy glow that can foretell a hopefully phenomenal album full of odes to motherhood ala Lauryn Hill album in Alicia Key’s future.
Not to be left alone in the sporadic occurrence of celebrity nuptials Clifford Joseph Harris Jr. (T.I.) and Tameka Cottle (Tiny). T.I. fresh from serving his prison sentence that resulted from weapons charges seems to have huge plans in his horizon. With Lil Wayne currently at Rikers – T.I. will have no problem promoting commercial singles to secure his position as the King of the South. Currently T.I. is featured in the film “Takers” that features Chris Brown amongst others. T.I. currently plans to solidify his place as hip hop royalty. He finally married his long time girlfriend who supported his dream when she was the more famous of the two during her stint as a member of hugely popular X-Scape famous for “My Little Secret” and “Who Can I Run To?”
We can only hope that the holy matrimony of these two couples wont be strained as hundreds of other celebrity marriages before them. Most husband and wife duos can hope to be as successful as Bill and Camille Cosby or Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. With the divorce of Nas and Kelis, as well as the Dream and Christina Milian making headlines for the absurdity of the separation. One can only hope that all drama can be ignored by Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys as well as T.I. and Tiny and that the words “til death do us part” will be honored.
