It is no secret that I absolutely love Jhené Aiko. I spoke to her when she released her cult classic, ‘Sailing Soul(s)’ back in 2011 and I have been in love with this girl ever since. Not only is she beautiful and talented, but she has an energy and thought process that is out of this world.
In 2013 Jhené could have been heard on pretty much every Hip-Hop major release and she even graced the Hot 100 charts by lending vocals to Big Sean’s infectious hit, “Beware” which also featured Lil’ Wayne. In the fall of 2013, while performing apart of the 10th anniversary of Rock The Bells, Jhené announced her debut EP, ‘Sail Out’. ‘Sail Out’ made an impressive debut at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums and has been ruling the digital charts ever since.
Just last month Jhené made her television debut on the Jimmy Fallon show with The Roots backed first performance of her Fisticuffs produced single, “The Worst” and then made an appearance live with Drake singing “From Time” a few nights later on Saturday Night Live. The next week she hopped on a plane to the UK to make her debut UK appearance.
It’s only a matter of time before Jhené is a household name. The best part about it is that she is doing it totally her way. Her debut album is scheduled for release May 2014 via NO I.D.’s Atrium Records through Def Jam.
