It was Summer 2001 and I remember being in The Village Performing Arts Summer Camp in North Philadelphia. Every morning instead of singing the National Anthem there was this one song that we sung with our head camp counselor. A young 20 something brown-skin sister with locs down her back lead us in a sing-a-long to Alicia Key’s “Fallin” every morning. Don’t ask me why, but I wasn’t mad at it at all. Fast forward to 2004 and EGOT winner John Legend released his game piano driven “Ordinary People”. Since then, both artists went on to win many awards, grace our television screens weekly, and became house hold names.
This week the two artists will celebrate life and Black excellence with a very special Juneteenth rendition of #VERZUZ. It’s Wednesday. Wine down to this special pre-mix from the EARSTYLE team.
