In The Mix: Teairra Mari – Point of No Return

Teairra Mari decided to leave her album behind and drop a mixtape and EP this month alongside her appearance in “Lottery Ticket”. Here’s her “Point of No Return” mixtape hosted by DJ Drama. She pays tribute to her hometown of “Detroit”, gets sexy on “Body” and offers some freestyles over tracks like “Over”. She also have tracks that were recorded for her “At That Point” album. I always though she was a bit underrated. Her debut album was good, but maybe because of its mature content and single choices she never really received the shine that she deserved.

For anyone familiar with House, Dubstep, or Moombahton, or anyone trying to get familiar with these genres, this is a good place to start. The Bill Cosby Experience, mixed by DMV’s own DJ SYLO is a fusion of funky and bassed out beats with Hip-Hop and Pop vocals laid out over the top. My favorite tape of the summer so far and I’m not saying that because he’s cool peoples. This mix really displays the similarities between genres and how well they sound when fused together.

Interscope Records recording artist Alja Jackson is nothing short of talented. Some of y’all might remember her from T-Boz and Chilli’s “R U The Girl?” reality show. For others, this may be your first time hearing about Alja. This girl can dance, sing, rap, and she is the CEO of her own label LEFTFIELD. She recently dropped a hot new mixtape called “The Prettiest Girl” which is also the title of her first single which features Missy Elliott and Lil’ Wayne on the remix. The Blendable Elements Present…The Extra Credit Mixtape

Another dope mixtape straight out of Philly. This is the first time I’ve heard any of these artists and I was very impressed. Lots of jazzy sounds, solid rhymes, and The Blendable Elements mixed the tracks flawlessly. These artists (Kids in the Hall, Dephonic, Sock the Rapper, Writtenhouse, Stalley, Akilles, Asaad) are mostly unheard of in Philadelphia, so to hear something as good as this makes me wonder why we don’t hear more of it.

In The Mix: Christian Rich – The Decadence

Here’s a mixtape that I have been anticipating! Christian Rich, is a twin Chicago-based artist and producer duo consisting of Kehinde “Rich” Hassan and Taiwo “Christian” Hassan. This duo is destined to take over! You may have heard of them and their “Famous Girl” song which gained popularity in 2009. The video was deemed the best video of 2009, and if you have not seen it make sure you check it out below! It is one of my favorite videos ever. The duo have linked up with Mick Boogie & Clinton Sparks and fashion labels Billionaire Boys Club & Ice Cream to drop this amazing mixtape. Anyways here is there new EP “The Decadence” with appearances by Pharrell, Shanell of Young Money, GLC, Pusha T, and more!

Breakin’ New First: Aint No Party Like An EarthGang Party!

People usually hit me up on twitter and ask who or what is EarthGang? Well I guess it’s time for a proper introduction! EarthGang is a fresh new group out of Atlanta, Georgia. They really can’t be classified into one category which is what makes them even more sick. Usually compared to pioneers OutKast, the group prefers to drop the comparisons and just be appreciated for the greatness that they are themselves.  They recently released a new mixtape called “The Better Party” with the best of their material. While it is just the beginning for the group, they have already opened up for the likes of Fabolous, LeToya Luckett, and Jeremih. Check out their mixtape and website after the jump. Girl Groups seem to be a thing of the past. The last few to survive were Destiny’s Child and TLC, but this year a slew of girl groups have been making some noise. First up we have Electrik Red, that’s The Dream’s raunchy, provocative girls. Then there was Rich Harrison’s Rich Girl who created a small buzz and is currently on tour with Beyonce. So one of my favorite groups The Cool Kids are back with a new mixtape “Gone Fishing” that’s to hold us over until they drop their debut album, “When Fish Ride Bicycles” later this year. You probably already heard of these guys before or seen them on Rhapsody TV commercials with their single, “Black Mags”. Clinton Sparks & Chester French: Jacques Jams Vol. 1: Endurance

Chester French consists of two members, Maxwell Drummey and D.A. Wallach. They met as college students at the prestigious Harvard University.The band is named after sculptor Daniel Chester French, who designed the statue at the Lincoln Memorial, the John Harvard statue, as well as the Minuteman statue at the Lexington/Concord battlegrounds in Massachusetts. Chester French’s long-awaited mixtape “Jacques Jams” finally leaked! Check it out here. I haven’t even listened, but judging from the appearances it looks like the mixtaped is stacked with dopeness. Can’t wait to listen to this…so yeah yall check it out and I am going to do the same thing and come back with my verdict. Let it rock!
