Earlier this week Pharrell hopped on a plane to make an announcement with the governor of Virginia to announce that today, Juneteenth would be recognized as a paid state employee for Virginia. Today, Pharrell Williams made an appearance on the Today Show to speak on the significance of “The Emancipation Holiday”. While passionately speaking of the importance of having the day off and acknowledging Juneteenth worldwide, Pharrell revealed an upcoming Juneteenth broadway musical and movie with Netflix and Kenya Barris who is the creative mind behind Grown-ish, Black-ish, and Black AF.

If you don’t do this you should feel ashamed of yourself. You know?
If you’re not with this then stop wearing the color black, don’t eat Black food, don’t do our dances, don’t do none of that. That’s not what you wanna do. Because we’re American and you love us. This is America. Just get on the right side of the right. This is the way the wind is blowing. Get your sails out and ride the wave.
